Wildcard Gymnastics Team News

The T&T team will have open gym practice this Saturday, April 23rd.  It is an important practice for those going to Regionals.  This will be the only opportunity to practice on competition equipment before Regionals.  Therefore it is optional for those not going to Regionals.  For those attending, we will focus on trampoline and tumbling routines.  Open gym begins at 6pm-8pm.

Just a friendly reminder that leotard orders are due May 1st.

All teams including those in Fast Track, Gold Bugs (at least the exhibition leotards), Gold Bugs II, T&T, Boys, and all Xcel Divisions are to purchase leotards (singlet/pants for boys), for the upcoming competition season.

Please stop by the front desk for a order form.  If you are unsure as to if and what you should order please be sure to ask Amy or Rhea.

We are requesting all optionals to attend open gym at M&M on Saturday, April 30th. Christina and Jessica will be in attendance to assist gymnast with skills. The cost for open gym is $10 and runs from 6pm-8pm. The purpose is to utilize the pits and work on skills.

There will be no evening Open Gyms Friday or Saturday because of the Family Tae Kwon Do tournament that is being held here this weekend.  Practice will continue until 8:30 – however, please pick up your gymnasts in a timely fashion (or they will be put to work! lol).

Due to the upcoming Xcel Regionals meet,  T&T and Xcel Bronze practice is canceled Thursday, April 14th to allow coaches to travel.

Leslie, from Xcel Bronze may come to practice tomorrow, Wednesday, April 13th to practice with compulsories (4:30pm-7pm).

Tryouts

T&T will not hold a “Tryout”. Anyone interested in T&T may attend practice Tuesdays and Thursdays 4pm-5:30 to get a feel of T&T. The coach will do an assessment to see where the gymnast is currently and start goal setting for the upcoming season. Once determined if T&T is a good fit, the gymnast will then become part of the team.

Let’s have everyone arrive 45 minutes before their start time. There will be a grand march for all athletes on Saturday at 1pm. It is required that all gymnasts participate in the march in. You are welcomed to leave in between flights. Be sure to return 45 minutes to one hour before their start time.

Nationals

The T&T Stars and Stripes Championship (otherwise known as Nationals) will be held July 22nd-24th in Tulsa, OK. We have 2 gymnast that have qualified for this event so far!! We hope to get our last and final qualifiers during regionals. More information regarding the Stars and Stripes Championship will be given in the future.

T&T Camp

Yes, that’s right…there is a T&T camp. T&T camp is held at Camp Wakeshma in Three Rivers Michigan. Athletes will participate in twice-a-day training with USA Gymnastics National Coaching Staff and will have the opportunity to participate in other summer camp activities such as swimming, boating, arts and crafts and hiking with other athletes from all over the country. Camp dates are July 31st-August 6th. The cost is $610. A $200 deposit is required upon registration, with the remainder due June 1st. Please let Rhea know if interested ASAP.

Just a little update for you on our coaching staff.  After 2 years of coaching Fast Track, Caitlin will be leaving Wildcard (hopefully not permanently) to focus on her career; though she will be back on and off to do some subbing. Julia and Samantha (Sam for short) will be taking over for Caitlin and preparing our Fast Track girls for Level 2 competition in December 2016. They are very excited about working with this group; and Wildcard is happy to have them.

Julia has been training with the Level 2s, 3s, and 4s on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays working closely with our Senior coaches. She has really gained a lot of knowledge and we have seen her putting it to use, transferring these skills to coaching Fast Track and recreational classes. Julia comes with a cheerleading and tumbling background. She has Cheered for 3 years and trained with Elite Tumbling for 3 years. She was MVP two years in a row! Julia is looking at a career in education and has volunteered with children at the Ronald McDonald House.

Samantha is a newly graduated Senior from Brookfield Central. She is pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education . She has worked at Kids In Motion since 2014 and has volunteer experience working with young children. Sam was also a Cheerleader and did gymnastics as a child so she has an awesome base from which to grow. She is extremely enthusiastic and is thrilled to be a part of the Wildcard coaching staff.

Wildcard is looking forward to having our Fast Track gymnasts prepared to compete in December of 2016. We will be emphasizing strength, flexibility and proper shapes. Level 2 is the introductory level of competitive gymnastics in which gymnasts have required skills that they must perform. Julia and Samantha are familiar with the routines and Amy and the other Team coaches will continue to work with them, as well as the Fast Track groups to make certain that they are on par and ready to compete.

Wildcard has also hired a new Team coach for the Level 2-9s — Nadiya comes to us with an extensive coaching and dance background. She has worked all over the country and has gymnasts that have reached the National level! We know she will be a great asset to our coaching staff as well.  She will be training a TOPs  and a modified HOPEs group. TOPs is a program that helps the girls train and achieve higher level of flexibility, strength, and ultimately possessing these skills allows them to achieve and perform higher level skills in gymnastics.  These gymnasts are by invitation only and require an additional 4 hours a week of practice.  HOPEs is a modified pre-Elite program for gymnasts age 9-12 that focuses on the skills, strength, flexiblity, and shapes needed to become an Elite level gymnast.  This group will initially be invitation only but Wildcard my except gymnasts (Level 4 and up) that are interested in improving their strength and flexibility.  Watch for more information to be provided.
