Wild Wild West Classic

Thank you to all parents, gymnasts, families, friends, and coaches who helped out with the Wild Wild West Classic competition this past weekend.  The meet was an amazing success and we couldn’t have done it without help from all of you!  Thank you so much. We appreciate that there were volunteers who covered for one another so they could watch their gymnast perform or stayed longer than scheduled, or just helped make things run smoothly.  It’s great to have such a fantastic Wildcard family.  We were so proud of how the gym looked, how the meet ran, how well the kids did, and how quickly everything got put back together.  Now we get a little breather until the Wildcard Cruise Classic in February!

Baby News!!

Congratulations to our Boys’ Coach Candace and her husband Jon on the birth of their son, Franklin Michael.  Franklin weighed in at 9 lbs 4 oz and 18.9 inches long this morning at 1:07. The family is doing well and we’ll be into the gym soon.  (Franklin will, of course, be added to the Boys’ Team roster immediately.)

Posed Photos

The photographer will be coming on Friday and Saturday to take individual and level photos of the gymnasts.  Each gymnast will get three poses and the photography company will put them online for viewing and ordering.  Here is the proposed schedule:

Friday Practice Schedule for Oct. 26 / Meet fees due / Photo Info.

Due to set-up and limited equipment for the Wild West competition, we are going to do a staggered practice on Friday.

Level 3s – 4:30 -6:30 p.m.  (with Dance at 6:00 p.m.)

Level 4s – 4:30 -7:00 p.m. (with Dance at 6:30 p.m.)

Level 5/6s – 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. (with Dance at 5:30 p.m.)

Optionals – 5:00 – 8:30 p.m. (with Dance at 5:00 p.m.)

We apologize for any inconvenience, but this will definitely help with meet set-up and space concerns.  Thanks in advance.

Please don’t forget to bring in your items for the meet, as well sign up to help.  Sign up sheets are on the wall next to the front desk.  We still have plenty of times that we need assistance with.

***Also, meet fees for all Spring season gymnasts are due by November 15.  This includes Girls’ Level 7, 8, 9, and new Level 2/3s.  Thank you to the Boys’ Team who has turned all their fees in already! ****

For your planning, Friday, November 2 and Saturday, November 3, we will be having a photographer in the gym to take the team gymnasts level photos and do individual poses.  The girls will still practice as usual, just be sure that they have their competition leotard with them and that their hair is pulled up nicely.  We will try to set up a schedule for that so if parents need to come help with hair, makeup, etc. you can do that.  We may have some levels that will need to come on Saturday.  Boys’ Team and Level 2/3 (current Fast Track and Gold Bugs II) will take their photos on Saturday.

As you may already know, we are hosting the Wild West Classic on site on October 28th.  Each level of Team (Girls’ and Boys’) are responsible for helping out with bringing concession, goody bag, and/or judges’  room items.  In addition, we ask that parents please sign up to help with running the meet, set up or tear down, etc.  Please remember that Wildcard Gymnastics doesn’t have a booster club or charge booster club fees, by having families volunteer we are able to keep your costs low.  You may sign up for a job on the wall next to the front desk.  We always need help with setting the gym back up!

We have 5 sessions.  We need people to help with the “Jail/Playroom”, play music, take care of bathrooms, work the admission table, work in concessions, man the front desk / phones, help set up the gym and put it back together.  Please volunteer your time!  We definitely can put older siblings, grandmas and grandpas, friends, and complete strangers to work!  Thank you in advance for signing up.

Also, we ask that families donate items to help out with concessions, judges/coaches’ room, and goody bags, etc.  Please bring the following items by October 25th.  If it is something perishable, you may bring it the night before / morning of the meet.  You may choose to “buy out” option and donate $20 instead of preparing/getting various items. But “buy-outs” must be done by October 25th.

We have approximately 200 kids coming to the meet, 30 coaches and 8 judges.

Here are the items we need each level to bring:

Jr. Gold Bugs – treat/goody bag items (Halloween or Western trinkets, tattoos, pencils, lip gloss, etc.)

Gold Bugs I – Halloween themed bags to put goody bag items in

Gold Bugs II – Bathroom supplies/judges’ room items:  mints, gum, hairspray, baskets, pins, hair ties, lotion, nail clippers, etc. (There are 4 rooms that need those things.)

Fast Track – Napkins, cups, plates, plastic ware, ground coffee, creamer

Level 3 – Bring 2 cases of any of the following : water, soda, gatorade, juice, flavored water

Level 4 – Breakfast items, hot dogs (75), buns (75), Taco meet (seasoned and cooked – 4 lbs), 2 boxes of fritos; sour cream, salsa, black olives; ketchup and mustard

Level 5 – Bakery items, granola bars, snacks, chips, fruit, puppy chow, brownies, etc.

Level 6-10 – Judges / coaches’ room meals : Crock pot items (These are ideas. Anything would be great.)

Breakfast – fruit plate, french toast, muffins, etc.

Lunch – crock pot lasagna, mac and cheese, veggies, garlic bread, etc.

Dinner – salad and dressing, soup, sloppy joes, sandwiches, etc.

Boys – puppy chow in baggies, cream cheese, Halloween treats

Please sign up on the wall at the front desk, indicating what you will be bringing.  Thanks so much!

Wildcard Team Handbook

We are making the Team Handbook available online for your reference.  Please note, that this will be updated for the next competitive season, as the USAG Level structure will be changing, but the main concepts in the handbook will still remain the same.  At your convenience, please be sure to read through the material in the handbook to familiarize yourself with the procedures, expectations, and goals of Wildcard Gymnastics’ competitive team members. If you have any questions or concerns, please speak with Amy or Alie.

Boys Mock Meet

The Boys’ Mock Meet will take place on Monday, December 3rd during regular practice time. This is a REQUIRED event for all boys competing levels 3-7 this year. Please plan ahead to make sure your child can be here and on time. We will start with a competition style warm-up. Boys will then “compete” each of their 6 routines and be judged. Parents are encouraged to watch the mock meet in order to make the situation more realistic. This is a great way for us to make sure we are ready for the beginning of our season in mid-December. The boys will be wearing their uniforms, just like at a normal meet. Please let me know if you have any questions. We will also talk briefly afterward about the new scoring to clarify the changes that take effect this year. (Just so you know as you’re watching, we are aiming for 8’s and 9’s our first meet.)

Thank you!

Wildcard family,

Thank you so much for the wonderful baby shower last night. It was great to see all the kids making their own “babies” out of balloons, markers, diapers and baby clothes. I think they had fun. (The cake probably helped too.) There are pictures up on my Facebook and Amy’s for anyone who didn’t get to see their beautiful creations yet. 🙂

Amy told me I was not allowed to send Thank You cards, so I hope this will suffice as a huge thank you to everyone. The adorable baby clothes, diapers, and other necessities are all greatly appreciated. I feel more prepared now, and my Target list has shrunk considerably. Your generosity was overwhelming, especially from those girls who I do not coach on a regular basis.

Once again, thank you to everyone. Please come say hi any time we are at the gym in the future.

Sincerely,

Candace
