Second Installment of Meet Fees, Preseason Meet, Team Photo

Meet Fees, 2nd Installment — The second installment of meet fees for girls’ Levels 2, 3 and 4 are due August 15. Please pay prior to then or you will be billed and charged on August 15. If you are not on autopay, you need to take care of these prior to the due date or your child will not be able to compete. The final installment is due September 15. The meet fee installments are:

Level 2: $65 (three installments for $195)
Level 3: $145 (three installments for $435)
Level 4: $150 (three installments for $450)

Several families have not paid meet fees because they are not on auto pay and couldn’t be billed and have not paid in another fashion. If you are one of these families, you need to be caught up on meet fees by Aug. 15 or your child will not be registered for any competitions until you are paid. Our first meet entry is already due and the second meet entry is upcoming. We can’t pay those entries to the other gyms unless you have paid us. We will send out invoices to those who haven’t paid on Friday.

Exhibition Leotards — In case you haven’t noticed, there are quality issues with the new exhibition leotards.   The company has indicated that the issues are fabric related and it is something they will replace. We will likely have to send the exhibition leotards back to the company, but not until we have received a replacement. They will either replace with a higher quality printed leotard or a suitable replacement. On the boys’ side, we will likely be switching to a different style of leotard as the replacement fabric will not be conducive.

Boys’ will also be picking a different competition singlet as it was the same company, same material and same process that was used to produce the boys’ singlet.

Due to this issue, we will postpone the summer spectacular to make it either a fall or holiday show.  We will be collecting all exhibition leotards once the replacement leotards have arrived.

Girls’ competition leotards are shipping tomorrow, so we should have those in the next week or so, pending ship times from Australia.

Preseason Meet — We will be holding the preseason meet on Friday, Sept. 5. This pre-season meet is a “mock competition” for our Girls’ Level 2,3,4, and 5 teams.  Please note, the all-team picture will take place at 4:30 p.m, and open stretch will likely start at 5:15 p.m.  All Girls’ levels, including Xcel, and Boys’ Team should be there for the picture.  The meet should be concluded by 8:30 p.m. No other levels will be practicing that night and there will be no open gym. As a result, the Level 2s and 3s will not have practice on Saturday, Sept. 8. All levels (not including Xcel) are expected to be at the meet to help out.

All-Team Picture — The all-team picture will be at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 5. Everyone should be here with competition leotards on and hair pulled up. All levels who are expecting to compete between September 2014 and May 2015 should be in attendance, including all boys’ levels and Xcel levels.

Summer Practice Schedule — The following are girls’ practice dates and times for the remainder of August:

Wednesday, Aug. 20 —Xcel will be held, no other boys’ or girls’ team practices (coaches at national convention)
Thursday, Aug. 21 —No boys’ or girls’ team practices (coaches at national convention)
Friday, Aug. 22 —No boys’ or girls’ team practices (coaches at national convention)
Saturday, Aug. 23 — Xcel will be held, no other boys’ or girls’ team practices (coaches at national convention)

Monday, Aug. 25 — No morning practices, evening as currently scheduled
Tuesday, Aug. 26 — No morning practices, evening as currently scheduled
Wednesday, Aug. 27 — No morning practices, evening as currently scheduled
Thursday, Aug. 28 — No morning practices, evening as currently scheduled
Friday, Aug. 29 — Levels 3/4, 4, 6, 8/9 practice moved to 4:30-8:30 p.m., no open gym
Saturday, Aug. 30 — Morning practices as scheduled

The fall schedule will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 2. A separate communication will be posted regarding fall session times once those are finalized. Don’t expect or anticipate a major change.

Aloha Gymfest 2015 — Hopefully parents have had the chance to begin planning for Wildcard’s competition in Hawaii, Jan. 16-18, 2015 in Kailua, Hawaii. This competition is open to all girls in Levels 2-10. There is no Xcel or boys competition.

At this point, we’ve had good interest in the competition, but have yet to take any formal reservations. The cost of this meet is $100. Please pay the $100 meet fee by Sept. 15 so we may enter your child in the competition. Again, we need at least four additional families to attend or we will not go. Wildcard will not be making group travel arrangements either as families will want to stay different times.

We will recommend the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort. Currently, it is available for $183 per night and is right on the beach. You will not pay for the hotel until the time of the travel so you can book now without worry to reserve a good price. You might even be able to find it at a better rate if you search.

Normal Practice Times on Monday, Aug. 4 — Girls’ team practice will conclude tonight, Monday, Aug. 4, at 8:30 p.m. as normal. We have pushed the staff meeting back as we don’t want a shortened practice followed by no practice.

Tosa’s Night Out — Our next community show event is Tosa’s Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 5. We will be on the grass field outside the stadium at Hart Park. Gymnasts should wear the new exhibition leotards. Boys should wear a Wildcard t-shirt and black shorts.

As we will have equipment at the show, some levels will get to show some skills on some of our equipment. For more information on Tosa’s Night Out, click here.

We also had several competitors record highs for the meet. West set the standard for bench presses (38) and power cleans (29) of any of the 21 boys in the competition. Emily G. tied for the top amount of bench presses (46) by anyone in the meet. Hallie proved to be the strongest with the most bench presses (46) and power cleans (35) of the 41 competitors regardless of gender or age. Lifters had 90 seconds to do as many lifts as they could of a percentage of their body weight (roughly 40 percent). Many competitors couldn’t go the full 90 seconds, but all of ours did.

Ava C. had the highest beam score of any of the Level 5 girls gymnasts with a 9.000. Izzie had the highest vault score of any Level 6 with a 9.700. Hallie had the highest bars score (9.225) and floor score (9.300) of any open optional in the competition.

In the all-sports combine (a weightlifting and track event), we won as a team, beating two weightlifting clubs and one track club. We beat people who train to do this and we did it with no direct practice, only the conditioning we do on a regular basis.

In all, it was a very successful competition for us and we look forward to next year in Virginia!

Exhibition Leotards, Bethany Calvary Show, AAU Jr. Oly. Games.

Exhibition Leotards — The exhibition leotards are in. If you have not picked yours up, please do so this week. We will use them for the upcoming show on Saturday, July 26, and gymnasts will use them at the AAU Junior Olympic Games later this month. Your child will not be issued her exhibition leotard if it has not yet been paid for.

Bethany Calvary Show — We have a show on Saturday, July 26 at Bethany Calvary United Methodist Church (7265 W. Center St., Milwaukee) during its Share Fair. Our show times are 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., both of which are a half hour each. For the first show, all Gold Bugs, Level 2 and Level 3 should attend. For the second show all boys, Level 4, Level 5, Level 6, Level 8 and Xcel should attend. This is a nice event as they have a lot going on, including a rock wall, face painting, a dunk tank, food and other festivities. Girls’ gymnasts should wear exhibition leotards, boys should wear a Wildcard t-shirt and black shorts.

As a result of this, girls’ Level 2 and 3 team gymnasts that come on Saturday will only stay until 10:30 a.m. and then head to the show. Xcel gymnasts will practice 9-11 a.m. on Saturday morning due to the afternoon show.

Costumes for AAU Junior Olympics Team Performances — For all Level 6-up gymnasts who are participating in the team performance, please bring in a set of old clothes that your gymnast can tumble in so we can “Zombify” them before we head for Des Moines. The clothes should be tones of black, gray, brown (not too colorful) if possible and something that will not impede their tumbling (i.e. – sweatpants, leggings, a long-sleeve t-shirt, etc). We will add holes, paint, and add dirt to them for our performance in Des Moines. Please be sure to bring something your child is OK with turning into a costume, as the “zombifying” effect will be permanent. Please bring these in on Monday, July 21 if possible, so we may prepare the Zombification. Also, Level 6-up gymnasts should arrive a bit early for the performance in Des Moines so we can apply the Zombie face paint.

Gymnasts in Level 2-4 will get a tie-dyed t-shirt (which we will provide) and should wear black leggings/shorts for the performance. Both sets of gymnasts should wear their exhibition leotard underneath their costumes. Gymnasts should also have their warm-ups for awards following the competition.

We will have our last rehearsal for these shows on Wednesday (for Levels 2-4) and Thursday (for Levels 6-up) during morning practice. Please have your gymnast at practice that morning if you are participating in the team performance.

AAU Junior Olympics Updated Schedule — Please click here for the most updated Junior Olympics Schedule. Times have only shifted by a few minutes. No other major changes were made.

Also, we have one gymnast, Chasity, who is wishing to stay through the end of the meet to stay for the team performance, but her mother can’t stay beyond Monday. If there is a family she can stay with to participate in the team performance, please connect with her or connect with someone at the gym to help make the arrangements.

Team Schedule Changes — With the show and AAU Junior Olympics coming up, we will have a few changes to the practice schedules. Those are:

Saturday, July 26 — Girls’ Level 2-3 and Fast Track will practice only until 10:30 a.m. and will then head to the show. Xcel practice from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. so they may be able to participate in the show. Boys’ practice will be unaffected as they will participate in the later show.

Monday, July 28 and Tuesday, July 29 — There will be no changes to practice, just note that some groups may be combined due to size since many kids will be in Des Moines. Level 8-up gymnasts, this will be a very small practice. Please let us know if you will not be in attendance as we will cancel if no one is going to show up.

Wednesday, July 30 — There will be no morning practice for any level and Level 3, 3/4 and 4 will not practice that evening as well because most of the gymnasts and all of the coaches will be at AAU Junior Olympics.  Xcel WILL have practice on July 30 at its regular time.

U.S. Classic — This is the LAAAAAAST call for U.S. Classic Tickets. If you want to go, please let us know by Monday. The cost for tickets is $25 per person. The meet is Saturday, August 2 in Hoffman Estates, Ill.

Tosa’s Night Out — Wildcard Gymnastics’ next show is Tosa’s Night Out at Charles Hart Park in Wauwatosa (5.8 mi., 11 min. | MAP) on Tuesday, August 5. Please mark your calendars.

Monday will be the typical practice time of 3:30-5 p.m. Thursday, gymnasts will practice 3:30-5 p.m. and then may join the Level 6 practice. Friday, gymnasts will practice as scheduled prior to the test, but will be in a TOPs group instead of with their regular group.
