Cruise Classic Set-Up Tonight, 8:30 p.m., Concordia Univ.

Parents, please help us out tonight at Concordia Univ. (12800 N. Lake Shore Dr.) in Mequon at 8:30 p.m. for set up for the Wildcard Cruise Classic.

We have 12 volunteer signed up, which is our bare minimum. Obviously, the more we have the faster we can get done. We hope to be done setting up by 10:30 p.m. if we have at least 20 willing, strong bodies.

Please come to help us out.

Again, optional level gymnasts should plan on heading to Concordia right after practice.

As a reminder, all competing girls’  gymnasts (except Xcel) should be at practice from 4:30-7:15 p.m. tonight (Feb. 6).

Wildcard Cruise Classic, Friday & Saturday Practice

Volunteers Still Needed — The volunteer schedule for our meet this weekend is filling up nicely, however we still have a few spots that need to be filled. Please remember that all competitive levels (Girls’ Level 2 – Level 8, Boys’ Level 4 – 8 and Xcel Silver – Gold) are expected to help out with our home meets! With the Cruise Classic being hosted at Concordia, we need even more help! New Fast Track and New Gold Bugs II parents, you are not required to help, but we will graciously take your help!

Most importantly, we’re shy on set up and tear down help. We need a minimum of 12 people to set up (with 20 being really helpful). Right now, we only have 5 people signed up for set up. Set up is 8:30 p.m.-close on Friday. We can probably set up in two hours with 20 people. The company we are using for equipment rental is much faster at set up and tear down than the company we had to use for state last year.

For tear down, we only have two individuals signed up. Again, the more we have, the faster it is. Tear down is 7:30 p.m.- close on Sunday. We expect 2-2 1/2 hours.

Also, all optional-level boys and girls’ gymnasts should go to Concordia Mequon on Friday to help with the set-up. There will be plenty to do and again, the more hands, the faster. This floor can be set up by younger kids as well. It is set up like our floor, so the boards are a little lighter and two members of our optional team should be able to handle each board. Those gymnasts as well as the Xcel gymnasts should also stay through the Xcel session on Sunday to help with tear down. We realize this is a late night before a school night, but again, the more we have, the faster we’ll go.

We also need the following spots filled:

Session 1 (boys, 7:15 a.m. Saturday):
Admissions (one), Score entry (one)

Session 2 (AAU girls, 1 p.m. Saturday)
We’re pretty good here. We just need a ribbon writer but could manage without one.

Session 3 (AAU girls, 4:30 p.m. Saturday)
Three score entry individuals and one person for admissions

Session 4 (USAG Levels 2, 3, 4, 7:15 a.m. Saturday)
Two score entry individuals and one beam time

Session 5 (USAG Levels 5, 6, 8, 11 a.m.)
One score entry individual

Session 6 (USAG Xcel Silver, Gold, 3:15 p.m.)
Two score entry individuals

Other than set-up and tear down, we’re doing pretty good with volunteer help. Please fill these sessions so we don’t have to ask parents with kids competing in a specific session to work.

Please sign up here:

We also still need a lot of food donations for the judges’/coaches’ room.  Remember, we want to keep the judges (and hungry coaches) happy so we need to feed them good food!!!  These are the only food requests we are asking of you, since Concordia will be manning the concessions for this meet. Friday & Saturday Practice — This is a reminder that there is no Saturday practice for boys’ and girls’ due to the Wildcard Cruise Classic. There is practice for Xcel from 11 a.m.- 1 p.m.

The new Level 2s (former Gold bugs II and Fast track), Level 3 and Level 3/4 need to come to Fridays’ practice. Those who aren’t competing this weekend do not need to attend practice. Again, practice on Friday night is MANDATORY for any gymnast who is competing Level 2, Level 3 or Level 4. Other levels that normally attend on Friday should be at practice. Please note: Friday’s practice is 4:30-7:15 p.m.

Wildcard Cruise Classic on Saturday and Sunday –  We would love to have a big “home” crowd for the meet this weekend at Concordia.  Please stay and watch other levels, cheer on your Wildcard teammates, etc. Feel free to make posters or banners to cheer on your favorite Wildcard gymnasts.  Also, new Fast Track and new Gold Bugs II, we encourage you to come watch the competition so that you know what you will be doing in the future.

Success Wall Additions — The following gymnasts were added to the success wall from the St. Valentine’s Classic in Grayslake, Ill. last weekend.

Wildcard “Home” Meet, Baby Ellison, Non-Competitive Tops, Team T&T

Welcome Ellison — Our boys’ head coach, Candace, had her second child this week (and no, despite how it may have looked, she did not have triplets, nor was 15 months late). We’d like to take the time to welcome Ellison Montgomery Wittrock to the world. He was born at 9:22 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 25. Candace and Ellis (or Monty … or Tedward) are doing well. Until Candace returns, the boys are in the hands of Jason on Mondays and Blain on Wednesdays.

Saturdays will be up in the air depending upon the meet schedule. The next two Saturdays there will be no boys practice as the Level 8s have a meet this weekend and the whole team is next weekend. Hopefully, Candace will be back in the swing of things by our meet, and we’ll be back on schedule.

Sign-Ups for Wildcard Cruise Classic — Signups for the Wildcard Cruise Classic are available here:

www.SignUpGenius.com/go/20F0C4DAEA82AA7FE3-wildcard

The amount of volunteers needed is a bit smaller than a typical home meet because we aren’t running concessions and don’t have a front desk or phones to operate. We need at minimum 8 volunteers per session (this does not include award presenters). We can always use more. Captains sign up is also available on this form.

Also, not on the list is change over from boys to girls set up in between the first and second sessions. This should be relatively painless and we only need a few strong people. Parents of boys gymnasts, please plan on helping immediately after the boys session in addition to other volunteer duties. It only involves setting up one set of uneven bars and moving a few mats around and should only take about a half hour.

Coaches and Judges Food for Cruise Classic — We do not need concession donations, but we will need food donations for the Cruise Classic. We will be need of crock pot meals, fruit/veggie plates, snack items, beverages, (preferably items with a “cruise” feel), etc. We need to feed up to 4 judges and about 15 coaches during the meet on Saturday for lunch and dinner and 8 judges and a dozen coaches for lunch on Sunday. We will need breakfast items for 3 judges and 5-6 coaches on Saturday and 8 judges and 6-8 coaches on Sunday. The sign up is available here:

www.SignUpGenius.com/go/20F0C4DAEA82AA7FE3-wildcard1

Updated Cruise Classic Schedule — Apologies for changing the schedule and then leaving off one of the groups. Level 4 girls are at 8 a.m. on Sunday. The current schedule is available here.

Practice Schedule Changes, Week of Cruise Classic — Friday’s practice on Feb. 6 will end at 7:15 p.m. in order for us to make it to Concordia University. Saturday, Feb. 7, there will be no boys or Xcel practice as we have the meet that day and most of our staff will be at the meet. We will try to add an Xcel practice next week if it’s at all possible.

Level 3s Stay Until 7:30 p.m. — The Level 3 girls’ group (those who competed Level 2 in the fall and came Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-6:30 p.m.) should stay until 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting next week.

Non-Competitive TOPs — At this point, due to dwindling participation numbers, Tuesday night’s non-competitive TOPs is being temporarily disbanded. We will re-evaluate the non-competitive TOPs group after the competition season ends in April.  (We’d love to have these kids join Tumbling & Trampoline Team, see below.)

Boys’ Level 4 Regionals — Boys’ regional entries are due at the end of the week. The meet is April 11-12 at Brookfield East High School. The cost is $80 for our gymnasts ($20 is being applied from current meet fees for a meet we didn’t attend). Please let us know by e-mail if your gymnast will be competing at this meet by Friday and pay the meet fee so we can get the entry in. We highly encourage all of our Level 4 boys to do this meet. Level 8 boys are registered as part of meet fees.

Team Tumbling & Trampoline — We have received limited response (from two gymnasts) regarding the tumbling and trampoline team practice. Tumbling and Trampoline team practices will be Thursdays, 6:30-8:30 p.m. There are still two more opportunities to compete this year still, one at the state meet (date and location TBD, probably at Scamps in Kenosha) and one at regionals (May 15-17 in downtown Milwaukee). The Tumbling & Trampoline competition was really fun and any of our team gymnasts will benefit from it!  The routines are relatively simple and our gymnasts will learn them very quickly.  This is open to all team gymnasts — Fast Track, Boys’ and Girls’ Team.

We need at least four to run this class. The cost of the class is $125 per session (note this class is charged sessionally for now … the remainder of the session will be prorated) and does not include meet fees. The only equipment gymnasts will have to purchase is trampoline shoes as we will compete in our current competitive gear. The class will not run this Thursday as we still await individuals who are signing up. If we do not have at least four gymnasts, the class will not run.

Karolyi’s Camp — We have 9 gymnasts currently signed up for the Karolyi’s Camp, July 6-11 near Huntsville, Texas. We need at least one more to sign up to send a coach. Deposit is $150. Please let us know if you are interested. It will be a great opportunity for your gymnast to learn from different coaches in a fantastic setting.  Visit http://www.karolyiscamp.com for more information!

Aloha Gymfest — We had a great time at Aloha Gymfest on the island of Oahu last week. The meet was fantastic and well run. Photos are available to look at here:

https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1018833021476866.1073741866.129034147123429&type=1

At this point, we would suggest that this traveling meet return to the schedule. Anticipate that this will be on the schedule again in January 2017 as part of our regular every-other-year traveling meet, but there is an outside chance that it could be added in January 2016. Ideally, we would like to compete two meets while in Hawaii, as four teams did this year. Gymnastics in Paradise, hosted by Hawaiian Island Twisters, was held the weekend before Aloha Gymfest. Gymnastics in Paradise, however, was just an optional level (6, 7, 8, 9, 10) meet. There is no meet the following weekend in Hawaii. Boys, we’re sorry. We haven’t found a meet in Hawaii yet that would fit this schedule.

Success Wall Additions — With two meets since our last weekly blog post, we have a few gymnasts to recognize. All five gymnasts at Aloha Gymfest made the success wall and three Xcel gymnasts made it in their first meet of the season.

Aloha Gymfest
Level 3
Essence B.— 9.600 on vault (1st place), 9.300 on bars, 9.100 on beam, 9.050 on floor
Aniyan B. — 9.250 on beam, 9.100 on floor

Level 6
Bradyn F. — 9.100 on bars
Elie L. — 9.050 on vault (1st place)
Aaliyah K. — 9.150 on bars, 9.400 on beam

Altius Pink Ribbon Meet
Xcel Gold
Christen B. — 9.350 on vault (1st place)
Anna P. — 9.050 on vault
Aliyah R. — 9.200 on vault

NO Boys’ Team practice tomorrow! (Sat, 1/24)

No baby news yet; but Candace is starting to “feel” like it may be soon.  Rather than deliver at the gym, she is going to stay home and rest and get ready for new baby Wittrock.  No Boys’ practice tomorrow.  I will keep you posted on her status, as well as upcoming practice information.  Keep the Wittrocks in your thoughts!  Yay!  PS- if you have any names, feel free to send them – they haven’t decided on one…though I think Leighton Turner is perfect!  LOL.  Good Luck Candace!

Former Gold Bugs 2 – Neeskara Health Fair Sat, 17th 10:15 a.m.

The Gold Bugs 2 (that just moved to New Level 2) will NOT have practice this Saturday.  We will be performing our Floor Routines at the Nesekara Health Fair, held at Neeskara School.  It will be a quick 30 min. exhibition.  I’m guessing we will be in the gym or cafeteria (I’ll let you know if I find out more).  The show starts at 10:30 a.m. but please be there by 10:15 to stretch.  Gymnasts that have the long sleeve leotard can wear that one.  If they do not, then wear the short-sleeve exhibition leotard with the Wildcard Logo.  I am hoping a couple of the Boys will come to show off  a boys routine, and possibly a couple Optionals.  (See me Boys/Optionals if  you plan to do a modified routine and so that I know if you are coming.)   Thanks!

Neeskara is located at 55th and Washington Blvd.  I believe entry is off of 56th street.  Hope you can make it!

Wildcard Cruise Classic Registration, Fast Track, Reminder of Tuition Policy

Wildcard Cruise Classic — Families, if you haven’t registered for the Wildcard Cruise Classic, please do by Wednesday 1/14. The gymnasts listed below are registered. If your gymnast should be registered, please let us know. (Please note, all former Boys, Gold Bugs, Fast Track and Level 6 and 8s are registered with meet fees).

Angela B., Olivia G., Caelyr G., Ella J., Vanesa K., Kaylie M., Rhianna R., Jordan S., Sarah S., and Kamryn W.,

Former Fast Track, Former Gold Bugs II & Former Level 2 Team Practice Times — Starting, Jan. 24, the former Fast Track and Gold Bugs II groups (now New Level 2)  should now be coming on Saturdays from 9 a.m.-noon unless otherwise noted as they move into meet season. Please note that tuition for Fast Track will slightly increase as they go into Level 2 and Gold Bugs II will move into monthly tuition starting in February (more information on the monthly tuition is below). They are now considered Level 2s, so please note the change in name.

Beginning Jan. 27, the new Level 3 group (last season’s Level 2s) will now stay until 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please note, there will be a tuition increase as a result of moving to the new level.

Tuition Policy — We’d like to make a reminder to everyone regarding our tuition policy. We MUST have a credit card on file to bill tuition. We will bill current month’s tuition only if not paid by the 10th of the month to the card on file.

Also, please note that we are going to have a tuition increase beginning in March. We have the cheapest tuition of any gym around (YMCAs excluded and Xcel program excluded), by in some cases as much as 75 percent less. All of our team classes are about of what you’d pay at any of the five or six closest gyms. And we don’t over charge for meet fees. We did a unscientific poll and most gyms are charging close to double of what we charge for meet fees on each level. Also, we don’t charge an annual fee, like other gyms do. However, we have the same expenses.

Also, please note, we have only increased team monthly tuition by $10 once in the last four years. We are doing our best to keep it as inexpensive as possible.

So beginning March, your gymnast will be adjusted to the appropriate level and will be charged the following:

Girls’ Fast Track – $155 per month (up from $135 per month, 4-6 hours per month)
Girls’ Level 2 — $155 per month (up from $145, 7 hours per week)
Girls’ Level 3 — $160 per month (up from $145, 9 hours per week)
Girls’ Level 4 & 5 — $170 per month (up from $155, 10 hours per week)
Girls’ Level 6-10 — $180 per month (up from $165 per month, 12-15 hours per week)

We will likely be making some slight adjustments to gymnasts schedules in March as well.

Also, please note that in the summer when we allow the gymnasts to practice 4-6 hours more per week, we do not charge you for this like other gyms do.

Meet Fees — Former Gold Bugs II and Fast Track competing Level 2 in the spring season have their final installment of meet fees due Jan. 15. Those will be automatically deducted on the 15th if they haven’t been paid already. The meet schedule for these Level 2s is as follows:

Feb. 7-8 — Wildcard Cruise Classic at Mequon, Wis.
Feb. 21-22 — Hang 10.0 Invitational at Kenosha, Wis.
Mar. 21-22 — GymTastics Invitational at Watertown, Wis.
Apr. 11 — Carousel Invitational at Plover, Wis.

Boys’ team members, your final meet fee was not charged in December and will be charged on January 15.

Karolyi’s Camp — As of now, we have 10 gymnasts going to the Karolyi’s camp this summer, July 6-11. You can still get in the camp with the Wildcard group. For every 10 gymnasts, we can have a coach attend. If you are still interested, please give us the $150 non-refundable deposit today. You may find a registration form and more information at http://www.karolyiscamp.com.

Boys’ Level 4 Regional Invitational — The Level 4 boys are being invited to the regional competition in Brookfield which is usually reserved for the upper level gymnasts. The cost of this meet is $100, but we will offer it to our boys for $80 as we are removing one meet off the schedule. The meet at Sheboygan YMCA is being removed because they have moved the date to conflict with our home meet and we’ll deduct the cost of that meet fee from the regional entry. We highly recommend all the Level 4 boys do it to show the region just how successful the Wildcard Gymnastics boys’  team is this year!

Tumbling & Trampoline — Wildcard Gymnastics entered in a new competition this weekend with two of the team gymnasts as guinea pigs. We competed in the Tumbling & Trampoline competition as part of M&M Challenge with very good results. We were competing against athletes who train up to 12 hours per week specifically for these competitions. Despite a lack of specific training and not having a rod floor, russian trampoline or a double mini, our athletes did quite well against other kids in their level.

In tumbling, there were only 6 total athletes competing at that level regardless of age. Our athletes scored as high as a 48.9, just two and a half points behind much older athletes who train this regularly (that is not a significant margin in tumbling, scores would only need to increase .4 per judge to make up that deficit).

In trampoline, West F. scored a 20.0 in Level 5. In all, 27 different athletes competed in Level 5 and he, despite only training for a grand total of an hour prior to this competition, scored higher than nine of those athletes and within a point of another four more.

In double mini, Bradyn F. scored a 55.8 and was just 1.5 points from winning (an increase of .25 per judge puts her in first) against a girl who trains solely for this and said she practices 12 hours per week. Against 22 athletes competing Level 5, she was higher than nine and within a point of another three more. She was even higher than kids who train at one of USA Gymnastics national training centers in the state.

The point of this is we’d like to get this off the ground at Wildcard. There are five or six teams competing T&T in the state and there are more competitive opportunities. We have opened a team class on Thursday nights for team gymnasts who would like the opportunity to also compete T&T, for boys or girls. This class is from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. and is open to all team Fast Track – Level 8.

Right now, we have two regular season Tumbling and Trampoline meets on the schedule and two post-season meets. Meets are typically $50 for the first event and $10 each of the other two events. We could probably still get gymnasts entered in the next meet. We will also compete at state (date TBD) and T&T regionals, which is to be held in April in Milwaukee. If there is interest from optional level gymnasts, we could start a class on Wednesdays.  It was a very fun competition and would have been a blast with 15-20 gymnasts from our club competing.

Success Wall — We were remiss in noting the success wall additions from the Altius Strongman Invitational on Jan. 4. Those boys making the success wall were:
