Thank you, thank you, thank you

Wildcard coaches, parents and gymnasts:

We can’t thank you enough for the time and effort that all of you put in this week. Several families went above and beyond and we thank you all for your efforts. We wish we could put you all on the success wall!

We put on a great show this weekend and we could not have done it without the gracious, generous support from our super, awesome extended family. Wildcard’s reputation as a club was greatly enhanced throughout the state this weekend. This was about as well run a meet could have possibly been. Kudos to everyone. There was literally not one negative comment from a coach or a gymnast at the meet (other than the stringent judging of which we don’t have any control over).

As a reminder to all of you, there is no practice — boys or girls — tomorrow, March 24. We all need the day to recover.

The following gymnasts (who this meet was really about) will be added to the success wall:

Level 6:
Sofia B. — 9.000 on floor
Bradyn F. — 5th place bars
Izzie L. — 11th place beam
Elie L. — 4th place beam
Miley L. — 9.000 on vault (2nd place)
Jordan M. — 3rd place vault, 2nd place bars, 3rd place all-around
Camille P. — 8th place vaultEden R. — 4th place vault, 6th place beam, 6th place all-around

Level 8:
Ava G. — 9th place floor
Bella G. — 4th place vault
Heidi K. — 7th place bars
Glenna P. — 7th place vault

If we missed someone, please let us know. There was a lot going on and we might have an omission.

STATE MEET WEEK!!!!!!

BOYS’ STATE — Congratulations to our boys who competed at the 2014 Wisconsin Men’s GyMANstics Championships this weekend. We won a ton of medals. See at the end of this blog post for a complete list.

FRIDAY PRACTICE CHANGE — The Friday practice time has been moved up to start at 3:30 p.m. and conclude at 6:30 p.m. Gymnasts, arrive as soon as possible, we know 3:30 will be tough. There will be no conditioning and with just 20 kids in the gym, gymnasts should get at least 30 minutes on each event. All Level 6s should go home after the practice. The Level 8s and 9s should plan on going to Brookfield East to help.

SATURDAY, MONDAY PRACTICES — There are no practices for any team (Boys all levels and girls all levels including Xcel) on Saturday or Monday. Boys Level 3 and Girls’ Xcel will have their practices made up. We will probably try to add an extra opportunity for competing kids prior to the meet in Plover in two weeks.

THURSDAY TEAM DINNER — We still have a couple of gymnasts who have yet to place an order for Noodles on Thursday. Those gymnasts are: Sofia B., Hattie B., Miley L., and Heidi K. Please have those orders placed no later than 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Pick up at Noodles (124th and Capital) is 9:15 p.m.

STATE MEET WEEKEND — Families, it’s been a long ride and there has been lots of planning for since we were awarded the state meet in September. We are three days from hosting it and all eyes will be on Wildcard Gymnastics for the two days.

Again, we can’t thank parents enough. We know we’ve asked a lot of you this year, even this month. But rest assured, this is the last meet we will host until October.

We still need volunteers to help with the running of the meet, specifically in the Level 7 sessions on Sunday. We also need help with people selling leotards and serving in the hospitality rooms. Those are easy jobs and for those of you who haven’t signed up for this meet, or other meets this year, please do. Its very important that we get a fair and equal amount of help. Remember, we don’t have a booster club that constantly bugs and pressures you. We rely on your graciousness.

Here are the areas in which we have confirmed help and need help:

Friday

Meet set up, Glenn P., Chad O., Richard L., Donald K., Vicki D., Brian P., Joe C., Chance G., Shane S. and we could use about 10 more people to make the process go faster. We also have the Brookfield East Baseball Team at 7:30 p.m. PLEASE ARRIVE AT 6:30 P.M. instead of 7:30 p.m. as we have access to the gym earlier.

Admission: All Wildcard gymnasts will not be charged admission and any volunteers will get in free for the duration of the weekend. All gymnasts can help out with awards, provided they are dressed properly and are doing what they are supposed to according to our awards captain, Kajuana L.

Good Luck to the Boys / Girls’ State Week

Boys’ State — Thanks to all our boys’ and girls’ team gymnasts who took part in the boys’ spirit week days. The boys had a blast at Noodles last night and will compete for state titles starting tomorrow. We wish them all the best!

Next Week’s Spirit Week — Next week will be spirit week as it’s both the state meet for the optional level girls and a home meet! This is designed to really get the gymnasts pumped up for State, so the more team spirit, the better! The following are the dress for spirit days:

Monday — St. Patrick’s Day. Wear your green!
Tuesday — Pink and black, Level 8s-up wear your leotards from the Altius meet. Other gymnasts can wear pink or black.
Thursday — Dress like a champion. Wear your medals or dress how you think a champion would dress.
Friday — Purple pride. Wear your purple!

Level 6s, 8s and 9s to Noodles — We will have a signup on the wall for our team dinner for the Level 6s, 8s and 9s to go to Noodles THURSDAY night as opposed to Friday night (due to state set up). We will go to Noodles at 8:30 p.m. with a 9:15 p.m. pick up. The menu and costs are on the wall.

Level 6-10 State Help — Families, in case you didn’t see it, the sign up for volunteer times for the state championship meet is on the wall. It’s filling up, but we still have a lot  of spots available. The most important spots are the on-floor score inputters and music players. We are in desperate need of help in the first session on Saturday as we still will have rec. classes at the gym in the morning and all our spare help will be people will be in use.

We also need volunteers to help with meet set up and tear down. Level 8s and 9s should plan on helping with set up at Brookfield East after practice. There will be plenty of chairs, awards stands and other smaller details to set up.

Captians, you’re expected to set your areas up on Friday night as well. Also, please help recruit volunteers for the areas that you oversee. Remember, all volunteers will receive free admission all weekend. And as an incentive, any family that volunteers for three or more sessions (not three family members in one session, but family members in three different sessions) will receive a $50 tuition credit. This tuition credit does not apply to award presenters, and only to the people on the floor, admissions, sellers, and hosts.

iPads Needed — Parents, we need to borrow 3-4 iPads for the meet for scoring purposes. We will take excellent care of them, we promise. Preferably if we can get iPads with 3G or 4G data on them, that would be better. The amount of data used to input scores is very small, but if we need to increase your data allotment, we can do that. Also, please turn off the password protection for the course of the weekend. A signup is on the wall or you can e-mail us at the gym at gymnastics@wildcard-gymnastics.com if you can loan us the iPad. Please no one-day loaners either. Please only respond if you can loan it for the duration of the meet. We will need them fully charged with a charger on Friday night and can return them at 8 p.m. on Sunday.

State Week Practice Changes — At this time, we have very few practice changes, but the ones we do have are the following:

Friday, March 21, Girls’ Level 6-9 ONLY (no other levels please) from 4-7 p.m. Level 6s should go home at 7 p.m. and 8s should plan on going to Brookfield East to help with set up until 10 p.m. No evening open gym.

Saturday, March 22, No boys or girls team in all levels (girls’ Level 2, girls’ Level 3, girls’  Xcel and boys all levels). The gym will be open for classes, but that is it. We will try to schedule a make-up for the Level 2s and Xcel girls and the Level 3 boys but the other levels will be made up with extensive extra opportunities in the summer.

Monday, March 24 – No Girls’ Team practice.  Enjoy the night off, do something fun, or just relax.  There is a good chance that we will have optional gymnasts competing at Regionals, so be prepared for two more weeks of really focused practices and then we’ll get to start doing some up training!

Donations Needed

Parents, please be aware that as with competitions we’ve hosted previously, we will need some donated items for the Judges/Coaches’ Hospitality rooms.  Please be on the look out for that as the list will be forthcoming.

Success Wall Additions— With it being a very busy month, the success wall is turning into a virtual success wall. We promise that we will catch up after the girls’ state meet. The boys compete at Scamps in Kenosha and the girls competed at the Lucky Invitational in Waukegan, Ill. Here are the soon-to-be-added success wall images:

Girls’ Level 6: Miley 9.000 on bars, Lilly Jag. 9.000 on vault
Boys’ Level 5: Max Br. 10.000 on rings; Ian Y. 9.800 on floor, 10.100 on rings, 10.100 on parallel bars, 9.800 on horizontal bar
Boys’ Level 6: Bryce W. 10.900 on floor, 9.700 on pommel horse
Boys’ Level 7: Reed B. 10.800 on floor (1st), 10.400 on pommel horse (1st), 9.900 on rings (1st), 10.000 on parallel bars (1st), 9.900 on horizontal bar (1st), 1st All-Around

Remember, to make the success wall at state, a gymnast needs to medal or get a 9.0, so lets get everyone on the success wall in the next two weeks. At the girls’ compulsory state, we had 80 percent of the gymnasts make the wall. Let’s keep that up!

Weekend Practice Changes, State Info

Practice Changes — Due to this weekend’s girls’ meet in Waukegan, Ill., there will be no TOPs or Hopes practice on Saturday, March 8. Additionally, the Level 2s and 3s that normally come on Saturdays will have practice end at 11 a.m. instead of noon due to coaching coverage issues.

Boys’ team for this weekend is on as scheduled as their meet in Kenosha is on Sunday.

Additionally, we are also canceling team Saturday practice on Saturday, March 22 due to the Level 6-10 State Championship meet that we are hosting at Brookfield East. We will be very short staffed that day. This includes all Level 2, 3, TOPs and Hopes. No specific makeup will be offered for this date.

There will be no boys’ practice for Levels 4-up on Saturday, March 15, due to the State Championships meet in Jackson. There will be no boys’ practice for Levels 3-up on Saturday, March 22 due to the girls’ State Championship meet that we are hosting. A makeup for Level 3 boys’ team will be offered.

Additionally, there will be practice changes to the Friday, March 21 practice and that will depend on what time we can begin move in to Brookfield East. There will be no team practice on Monday, March 24 for any level.

Boys’ Spirit Week — Next week is State Championship week for the boys! We wish them luck in their quest for a state title. As we did with the girls, we will make a spirit week for the boys. Girls are highly encouraged to participate to show their team spirit for the boys too. The spirit days will only be on boys’ practice days. The events are as follows:

Monday: Mismatched socks day (wear two different, crazy socks)
Wednesday: Tank-tops (find your best tank top and wear it to practice)
Thursday: All Black (wear all-black shirts and shorts/pants (or leos) to practice)

Boys’ Team Dinner — On Thursday, March 13, we will extend practice by 15 minutes to 7:45 p.m. and we will then take them to a team dinner to Noodles (on 124th and Capital). We will drive the boys there, but pick up will be at Noodles. We will have a signup for food orders in the gym by Monday. Pick up at Noodles is at 8:30 p.m. All Level 4-7 boys are encouraged to attend Thursday’s practice and team dinner. The meal will include an entree, bread and a drink. Costs will be posted on the signup sheet.

State Championships Signup — By Monday, the signup sheet for volunteer opportunities at the Girls’ Level 6-10 State Championship meet will be up. This is the most important meet that we have ever hosted and all eyes in the state will be on us. It is very important for our reputation that this meet runs smoothly and competently.

All of you are very good at helping us run a fun, festive, issue free meet and we trust that the same will occur at State. We receive numerous compliments at our home meets. All volunteers will receive a wristband for free admission for the weekend. There will be some really good gymnastics at this meet and we hope that you all come to support the rest of the team at the first USA Gymnastics-sanctioned home optional meet that we have ever hosted.

There will be some differences in how this meet is run and some differences in who we allow to volunteer at various positions. We will also need a large team of strong volunteers to help us with meet set-up on Friday night and tear down on Sunday night. We must supply 20 workers to set up the equipment and we’re waiting on help from the high school, but we can’t count on it.  The more people we have to help, the quicker the equipment set-up and tear down will go.

Also, we again will have captains. This time, the compensation is one month of tuition for one gymnast. You may split captain duties among two people provided there is coverage the entire time. One person may not do more than one captain position. The captains will be the following:

Admissions
Coaches’ & Judges’ Room
Leotard / Flower Sales
Awards

Please note that being a captain will require you to be there the entire weekend, including Friday for set -up, and probably some pre-event duties.

We are also looking for a person to read awards, which is one of the biggest jobs available. It really sets the tone for how people think of the meet. Anyone who is interested, please see Blain.

We realize we’ve asked a lot of our parents this year and we thank you for making our year so successful. In fact, someone came up to Alie and Amy’s parents after the first session of the Wildcard Cruise Classic and said this was the best run, most fun meet they’ve ever been to. We also had someone post on our Facebook wall after the meet how great a time it was and we had two posts to our Facebook wall after Level 2 state how well we did. A lot of that gratitude goes to the parents who helped make it run smoothly.
