Level 8-up Regional Training Camp, Date Specific Practice Changes

Regional Training Camp — Region 4 Training camp will be held on Oct. 10-12 in Chanhassen, Minn. (a Minneapolis suburb), at Classic Gymnastics. This camp is open to all Level 7-up gymnasts based on a qualification system. Based on history and qualification standards, all of our Level 8-up gymnasts who choose to attend will get in the clinic. The clinic is staffed by coaches from around the region and college coaches. It’s a great opportunity to get hands on coaching from other coaches and to interact with gymnasts, other coaches and judges from across the region.

The cost for the clinic is $170, transportation and lodging are not included in that price. If there are enough gymnasts, we will rent a multi-passenger van and get multiple hotel rooms. Estimate $25 per night for lodging and between $40 and $60 for van rental and gas. Gymnasts will also need money for food during this clinic. It will be a great team-bonding exercise as well.

We will leave on Friday morning, Oct. 10. The first session is at 3:30 p.m. It will be done on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Saturday will be an all-day session. We will return home after that. Please respond by Sept. 15 if you wish to have your child attend this camp. We highly recommend it and hope that the majority of the the Level 8s attend.

Monday, Sept. 8 Practice — To accommodate our monthly staff meeting, the Monday, Sept. 8 practice will conclude at 7:30 p.m. Those in the optional Silver and Teal groups should come at 4:30 p.m. to get a full practice in.

Friday, Sept. 13 and Saturday, Sept. 14 Practice — Due to the competition on Saturday, Sept. 13 and Sunday, Sept. 14, we are making an adjustment to the practice schedule that weekend. This may change depending on coach availability, but the Level 3s who are competing that weekend should come on Friday, Sept. 13 from 4:30-7:30 p.m.

Those who are competing Level 2, including the Level 3/2s, should come to the regular practice on Saturday, but practice will be shortened from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. Xcel and boys will practice as scheduled.

Purple Optional Group Clarification — The Purple optional practice time starts at 4:30 p.m. One thing we neglected to mention was that the gymnasts may be done with practice at 7:30 p.m. if homework dictates. Otherwise, they should stay until 8:30 p.m.

AAU Age Group Nationals Hotel — The AAU Nationals meet this year is set for Las Vegas, Nev., June 10-14, 2015, at the Riviera Hotel and Casino Convention Center. Hotel reservations can now be made, so if you are planning on attending this event, lock your hotel rates early while rooms are still available. Rates start at $49 at the Riviera. We recommend making reservations for the duration of the meet, then cancelling what you won’t use prior to the cancel deadline. Reservations for that meet may be made by clicking here.

Pre-Season Meet, Leotards, Tosa Fest, Acro Class, Hawaii Update

Team Photo and Pre-Season Meet — Team, please remember that the all-team photo and pre-season meet will take place on Friday, Sept. 5. The photo will be at 4:30 p.m., so please be prompt. We hope to start warm ups for the pre-season meet at 5:30 p.m. and be done by 8:30 p.m. The team photo is for all levels including Gold Bugs II (those competing in February), Fast Track (those competing in February), Girls’ Level 2, Girls’ Level 3/2, Girls’ Level 3, Girls’ Level 3/4, Girls Level 4, Girls’ Optionals, Girls’ Xcel Silver, Girls’ Xcel Gold and all Boys’ Levels 4, 5 and 8. If you don’t know if your child is competing in February and she is in Gold Bugs II or Fast Track, assume they are and be part of the team photo.

Girls should be wearing the long-sleeve leotard (assuming it comes by Friday… more on that) or the exhibition leotard we currently have (assuming our replacements haven’t come). If the long-sleeve leotard hasn’t arrived, then everyone will wear the exhibition leotard. Boys should wear a black Wildcard gymnastics t-shirt and black shorts. We will have extra black t-shirts to borrow if need be. Coaches, we will try to provide you a t-shirt. You should wear black or khaki shorts, leggings or pants.

The pre-season meet is for any Level 2 that is competing in the fall season (Emily C., Neave, Olivia, Caelyr, Kendra, Jennifer, Lilly Jo., Claire, Emma M., Korynne, Maggie, Ruth, Sadie, Brooklyn), Level 3 (Aniyah, Angela, Essence, Vanesa, Ayanna, Emma L., Nora L., Mariyah, Kaylie, Rhianna, Jordan S., Sarah, Taylor), Level 4 (Madeline, Chasity, BeckyDee, Emily G., Nadia, Ella, Aliyah, Kerigan, Norah T., Ryann, Kamryn, Maeggan) and Level 5 (Ava C.). We hope to have awards started by 8 p.m. and the meet concluded by 8:30 p.m. We will have a brief Q&A for any of the Level 2 parents after the meet. We will have a parent meeting for all Gold Bugs II, Fast Track and Level 2 later in September.

Competition & Exhibition Leotards — The competition leotards have shipped from Australia, however they just shipped last week. We were told there was a near two-week delay in production due to equipment malfunctions after we were already told they shipped. As a result, we are expecting the leotards this week, assuming they clear customs in a timely fashion. If they don’t, we will wear the current exhibition leotards for the team photo and practice meet. If for some reason they don’t arrive in time for the first meet, we will wear the replacement exhibition leotards. They should have plenty of time to clear customs for the first meet, however.

The replacement exhibition leotards are in production and are scheduled to be shipped in about 10 days. We will need to collect all the exhibition leotards at that point.

Boys’ singlets are also in production and are scheduled to ship the first of October. Those should have been here by now, but we changed the order due to the low manufacturing quality. Also, boys, we will be sizing you for shorts and pants and warm-up jackets in the coming days once those arrive.

Please do not wear these leotards to regular practice. The only exception is the exhibition leotards on the Friday of a meet weekend.

Tosa Fest on Sept. 6, No Team Practice That Day Level 2-3 Girls — Remember, Tosa Fest is on Sept. 6 in the Tosa Villiage. The blog has information on that. As a result of that and the pre-season meet the prior night, we will not have team practice on Sept. 6. We expect everyone at Tosa Fest.

Xcel practice will be 9-11 a.m. to accommodate Tosa Fest.

Acro Class and Non-Competitive Tops — We are offering a new class, Acro Gymnastics for just $25 for the first session. This is a good mix of acrobatic and gymnastics skills and is a lot of fun. The class is Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m. All the girls tried a little Acro this week, so they can tell you a bit about it. There are some competitive options, which we might explore later in the year. It’s great for those in non-competitive TOPs, which runs 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Non-competitive TOPs is $20 per month and is for any gymnast who isn’t ready for competitive TOPs or isn’t age appropriate. It’s good for strength, shaping and flexibility for gymnastics purposes.

September Meet Fees — This is a reminder that for compulsory gymnasts, the final meet fees are due Sept. 15. For Xcel, Girls’ Level 6-9 and boys, the first installment of meet fees are due that date as well.

Those fees are:
Girls’ Level 2: $65

Boys’ Level 4: $160
Boys’ Level 5: $200

More Aloha Gymfest Information — For those who are coming to Hawaii, the meet fee of $100 is due Sept. 15. At this point, we have two families committed and need three more. We have had lots of families indicate they are wishing to go, but we need the five to commit. If you aren’t ready to make the commitment, go ahead and pay the meet fee. Those are fully refundable up through December. Also, please remember it is probably going to be brutally cold here in Wisconsin in January so you are going to really REGRET not signing up for the meet! And we probably won’t be traveling in the 2015-16 season.

It’s a great USAG-sanctioned meet with teams from Japan, Australia and Canada.

We have a bit more information on the trip as well. The host hotel is the Ohana Waikiki West in Honolulu. The rate for that is $119/night plus taxes for two; $199 for 4. (The rate looks to be $139 on Expedia for the same dates). The hotel is two blocks from Waikiki beach.

That rate includes:
-Wireless Internet
-In-room safe
-In room coffee and tea
-Daily newspapers at the reception desk
-OHANA nylon drawstring bag with Hotel logo – 1 free per room -Passes for the Waikiki Trolley Pink Line to Ala Moana Shopping Center

OHANA WAIKIKI WEST RESERVATION PROCEDURE

To get the above rate, please mention:
2015 GYMFEST (PG) – Group ID # DGFEST15

We have also priced group travel information. The price for group travel is $719 per person (taxes included) from Chicago to Honolulu on American Airlines, with a departure of Thursday, Jan. 15 (6:30 a.m.) and a return of Wednesday, Jan. 21. If we have enough willing to do this group travel, we can also arrange for a bus too and from Chicago O’Hare. If people are interested in this rate, we might be able to get it on different dates as well

The competition is Jan. 16-18 with a beach party on Jan. 19.  This will make a fantastic Christmas gift for your gymnast (and your family)!  Come on, you know you want to go, so just do it!

ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, Part 2 — On Monday, we responded to Alie’s challenge by Dianna with the girls’ Level 4s, 3/4s (and one Xcel gymnast), 6s and 8/9s getting soaked and raising $92 (matched to $184).

On Monday, the gym was nominated by M&M Gymnastics in New Berlin to accept the challenge. Gymnastics who practice on Tuesdays, this is your chance to see if you can best what the other levels did. Fast Track, Level 2, Level 3, and Level 3/2 gymnasts will get their chance to get soaked and raise money for the cause. Fast Track and Level 2 will take the challenge at 6:30 at the end of their practice and the other Levels at 7:30 at the end of their practice.

Boys will wear Wildcard t-shirts and black shorts.

ALS Ice Bucket Challenge — Alie has been nominated by our coach, Dianna Capcik, to take the ALS ice bucket challenge. We are inviting all of the Wildcard Gymnasts/coaches to join in the challenge by bringing $1 to donate to ALS and then we’ll “cool off” after T25 on Monday night (August 18)! Wildcard will match the funds raised. Bring a $1 and a towel. Prepare to be cold. Stay tuned for who Wildcard will be challenging!

** Non-competitive TOPs is open to any gymnasts in Fast Track through girls’ Level 6 who are interested in improving their conditioning, form, flexibility and who want to learn the TOPs physical abilities tests, routines and begin working skills that are in the TOPs and HOPEs routines.

*** Optional purple, silver and teal are mixed levels consisting of girls in Level 6-9. With the size of the Level 6 team, it makes the most sense to have three groups of combined level gymnasts. Groups will be determined on a bi-weekly basis and will be comprised based on the needs of the gymnast, work ethic, spotting needs and skill acquisition. The goal will be to try to rotate individuals in the purple group (more practice time) by gymnasts earning that spot.

Second Installment of Meet Fees, Preseason Meet, Team Photo

Meet Fees, 2nd Installment — The second installment of meet fees for girls’ Levels 2, 3 and 4 are due August 15. Please pay prior to then or you will be billed and charged on August 15. If you are not on autopay, you need to take care of these prior to the due date or your child will not be able to compete. The final installment is due September 15. The meet fee installments are:

Level 2: $65 (three installments for $195)
Level 3: $145 (three installments for $435)
Level 4: $150 (three installments for $450)

Several families have not paid meet fees because they are not on auto pay and couldn’t be billed and have not paid in another fashion. If you are one of these families, you need to be caught up on meet fees by Aug. 15 or your child will not be registered for any competitions until you are paid. Our first meet entry is already due and the second meet entry is upcoming. We can’t pay those entries to the other gyms unless you have paid us. We will send out invoices to those who haven’t paid on Friday.

Exhibition Leotards — In case you haven’t noticed, there are quality issues with the new exhibition leotards.   The company has indicated that the issues are fabric related and it is something they will replace. We will likely have to send the exhibition leotards back to the company, but not until we have received a replacement. They will either replace with a higher quality printed leotard or a suitable replacement. On the boys’ side, we will likely be switching to a different style of leotard as the replacement fabric will not be conducive.

Boys’ will also be picking a different competition singlet as it was the same company, same material and same process that was used to produce the boys’ singlet.

Due to this issue, we will postpone the summer spectacular to make it either a fall or holiday show.  We will be collecting all exhibition leotards once the replacement leotards have arrived.

Girls’ competition leotards are shipping tomorrow, so we should have those in the next week or so, pending ship times from Australia.

Preseason Meet — We will be holding the preseason meet on Friday, Sept. 5. This pre-season meet is a “mock competition” for our Girls’ Level 2,3,4, and 5 teams.  Please note, the all-team picture will take place at 4:30 p.m, and open stretch will likely start at 5:15 p.m.  All Girls’ levels, including Xcel, and Boys’ Team should be there for the picture.  The meet should be concluded by 8:30 p.m. No other levels will be practicing that night and there will be no open gym. As a result, the Level 2s and 3s will not have practice on Saturday, Sept. 8. All levels (not including Xcel) are expected to be at the meet to help out.

All-Team Picture — The all-team picture will be at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 5. Everyone should be here with competition leotards on and hair pulled up. All levels who are expecting to compete between September 2014 and May 2015 should be in attendance, including all boys’ levels and Xcel levels.

Summer Practice Schedule — The following are girls’ practice dates and times for the remainder of August:

Wednesday, Aug. 20 —Xcel will be held, no other boys’ or girls’ team practices (coaches at national convention)
Thursday, Aug. 21 —No boys’ or girls’ team practices (coaches at national convention)
Friday, Aug. 22 —No boys’ or girls’ team practices (coaches at national convention)
Saturday, Aug. 23 — Xcel will be held, no other boys’ or girls’ team practices (coaches at national convention)

Monday, Aug. 25 — No morning practices, evening as currently scheduled
Tuesday, Aug. 26 — No morning practices, evening as currently scheduled
Wednesday, Aug. 27 — No morning practices, evening as currently scheduled
Thursday, Aug. 28 — No morning practices, evening as currently scheduled
Friday, Aug. 29 — Levels 3/4, 4, 6, 8/9 practice moved to 4:30-8:30 p.m., no open gym
Saturday, Aug. 30 — Morning practices as scheduled

The fall schedule will begin on Tuesday, Sept. 2. A separate communication will be posted regarding fall session times once those are finalized. Don’t expect or anticipate a major change.

Aloha Gymfest 2015 — Hopefully parents have had the chance to begin planning for Wildcard’s competition in Hawaii, Jan. 16-18, 2015 in Kailua, Hawaii. This competition is open to all girls in Levels 2-10. There is no Xcel or boys competition.

At this point, we’ve had good interest in the competition, but have yet to take any formal reservations. The cost of this meet is $100. Please pay the $100 meet fee by Sept. 15 so we may enter your child in the competition. Again, we need at least four additional families to attend or we will not go. Wildcard will not be making group travel arrangements either as families will want to stay different times.

We will recommend the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort. Currently, it is available for $183 per night and is right on the beach. You will not pay for the hotel until the time of the travel so you can book now without worry to reserve a good price. You might even be able to find it at a better rate if you search.

Normal Practice Times on 8/4 and Tosa’s Night Out on 8/5

Normal Practice Times on Monday, Aug. 4 — Girls’ team practice will conclude tonight, Monday, Aug. 4, at 8:30 p.m. as normal. We have pushed the staff meeting back as we don’t want a shortened practice followed by no practice.

Tosa’s Night Out — Our next community show event is Tosa’s Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 5. We will be on the grass field outside the stadium at Hart Park. Gymnasts should wear the new exhibition leotards. Boys should wear a Wildcard t-shirt and black shorts.

We will do two show events, one at 5 p.m. and another at 7 p.m. All levels of our team are asked to come (gold bugs, fast track and girls’ Level 2-9 and boys’ Levels 4-8). We will be set up for an obstacle course for kids to play on starting at 4 p.m. through 8 p.m. As a result, all levels of team, including gold bugs, will not have practice that night. As we will have equipment at the show, some levels will get to show some skills on some of our equipment. For more information on Tosa’s Night Out, click here.

Boys’ Practice Changes — Remember, boys, that there is a change in practice schedule this week due to Candace’s vacation and the availability of coaches. There will be no morning practice this week. The schedule is as follows:

Monday, Aug. 4 — 9 a.m.-noon NO PRACTICE, 5-8 p.m. (all team boys at the same time)
Tuesday, Aug. 5 — 9 a.m.-noon NO PRACTICE, Tosa’s Night Out, 5 p.m. & 7 p.m.
